Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to invite international guests to your home. You could ask another Christian family to partner in preparing the meal at one of your homes. Then invite one or two immigrant families or a number of international students to join you. Tell them the history of Thanksgiving, emphasizing the generosity and friendship of the Native Americans and the pilgrims. Talk about the importance of various cultures learning from each other and living in unity.

You can also ask everyone what he or she is thankful for. Don’t hesitate to pray before the meal. Just tell them simply something like, “We believe in a God who gives us life and food. God is like a parent to us and on Thanksgiving we especially like to tell God ‘Thank You!’”

Most people love to hear stories and learn about other people’s family traditions.
