Animists typically are people who live with a strong belief in the supernatural or the unseen. They may believe that animals, trees, or rivers have spirits. They may seek to communicate with the spirits of people who’ve died. Sometimes they are tribes who live far away from the majority world religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Other times Animists are people of those world religions who focus on spirits instead of the main beliefs of their faith. For instance a Thai who offers flowers and incense to various spirits or gods to protect his boat would be a Buddhist who is living like an Animist.
